Osaka Food Tour - Japanese food around Namba, Dotonburi, Shinsekai & Sonezaki

On our recent trip to Japan, we went on our own self guided food tour around Osaka, trying some of the best Japanese food around Namba, Dotonburi, Shinsekai & Sonezaki. Here are some must try foods in Osaka!

  1. Takoyaki

A beloved street food, takoyaki Osaka that's hard to miss. Takoyaki is a ball-shaped snack made from a savory batter filled with small pieces of octopus, tempura scraps, and green onion. It's then cooked on a hot plate and served hot with takoyaki sauce and mayo. The crispy outside and the soft inside make it a real treat for your taste buds!

2. Matcha ice cream

A perfect treat for those with a sweet tooth, we tried various strengths of matcha at Four Green Leaves ITOEN in Daimaru Department Store. Made from finely ground green tea leaves, the matcha ice cream here comes in 7 different intensities, and is a unique way to enjoy matcha the bitterness and sweetness of different blends of matcha!

3. Okonomiyaki

Okonomiyaki is a savory pancake that's a staple in Osaka cuisine. It's made from a batter of flour, water, eggs, and shredded cabbage. You can then add various toppings such as meat, seafood, or veggies. The pancake is then topped with a sweet and savory sauce, mayo, and bonito flakes. It's a delicious and filling meal that's perfect for a quick bite.

4. Kushikatsu

This is a deep-fried skewered dish that comes in a variety of flavors. You can find everything from meat and seafood to vegetables and cheese. The skewers are then dipped in a special sauce and served hot. It's a mouth-watering dish that's perfect for those who love crispy and savory flavors.

5. Yakitori

Yakitori is a popular Japanese dish made from skewered chicken pieces that are grilled over charcoal.
