EDIT: Unfortunately at a recent visit to Wagyu House in early 2024, we had an extremely unpleasant experience with the customer service provided by the owner. The quality of the food has also lowered. We can no longer recommend this restaurant.

If you’re after a fancy restaurant with an element of intimacy, give Wagyu House a miss. With charred wooden tables and red plastic chairs, this outdoor-verandah-turned-open-air-restaurant looks like a disaster waiting to happen, but the barbecue offerings here are so good that nobody minds! There’s no time for a leisurely chat at Korean barbecue anyway - you’ll be too busy with the delicate balance of tending to the grill and eating your freshly cooked meat.

Wagyu House definitely has a reputation for serving premium meats, so much so that people travel from all over Sydney to enjoy a meal here (including us!). Get yourself a plate and load up on beef, lamb, sausages, seafood, pork and chicken - go big or go home! Despite it being a buffet, Wagyu House serves high quality meat, and the turnover is so high that you can be assured the meat never sits out for too long.

If you’ve never had Korean barbecue before, go for the classics - big juicy cuts of Wagyu beef, marinated strips of bulgogi and strips of pork belly. Let your meat grill over the charcoal, cutting into small bite size pieces with the scissors provided. While the meat is cooking, get your lettuce ready with a smear of ssamjang soy bean sauce and kimchi if you like a bit of spice. Once the meat is cooked to your liking, dip your meat in a little sesame oil mixed with salt, wrap in your lettuce and enjoy!

While the main attraction at Wagyu House is definitely their quality meat offerings, they have a good range of sides to fill you up too. There’s plenty of vegetables, sushi, sauces, rice, noodles and fried dishes to keep you going while your meat cooks to perfection. They also have ice cream and fruits for a simple dessert after your cooking is done.

Even though Wagyu House has a chaotic vibe with people darting back and forth between buildings, the staff are great at keeping everything under control. They will come by occasionally to change your grill if it’s gotten too charred, and are quick to put out any barbecue fires with lettuce leaves and water. They’re truly experts when it comes to manoeuvring buckets of hot charcoal around the crowds!

At $39.90 per person, you’ll be hard pressed to find a better value all-you-can-eat buffet around Sydney.
