Anita Gelato, Sydney - Review

ice cream scoops of belgian and pavlova from anita gelato in manly

Summer is the perfect time for ice cream! We recently visited Anita Gelato’s Manly location after a sunny day at the beach.

Most ice cream establishments in Sydney operate as takeaway, so Anita Gelato’s spacious and air-conditioned indoor seating area was a welcome surprise. With brass fixtures, moulded ceilings and a calming green interior, the shop embodies a traditional decor style with a few modern twists.

On the menu is a variety of different gelato flavours, complete with a viewing window for customers to watch ice cream being crafted from scratch. We ordered the Belgian chocolate and pavlova flavours from the selection available. We loved the look of their beautifully presented toppings bar, although it wasn’t clear whether these topping were available to order at all. The staff didn’t make mention of them, so we didn’t end up trying any.

We found the ice cream here at Anita Gelato to be refreshing, although truthfully they didn’t stand out as special. We found the flavours to be a little basic and one-noted. We tend to enjoy crazy combinations when it comes to gelato, so maybe that has something to do with it! We did like the fact that they serve edible spoons, which is an environmentally friendly talking point.

Overall, we enjoyed our ice cream experience at Anita Gelato. Pricewise, the offerings here are on the more expensive side. Would we go out of our way to visit again? Probably not. But if you are in the vicinity and looking for ice cream, we’d say it would be worthwhile.
