10 Meals Under $10: Spaghetti Bolognese

If you want to eat GOOD food and keep your budget in check, our new 10 meals under $10 series will be right up your alley!

We’ll be sharing recipes we actually cook ourselves all the time… so you know they’ll be good! Starting off with our version of spaghetti bolognese, coming in at $9.32 total! 

Ingredients

  • 500g Pork mince ($3.99)

  • 1 onion ($0.41)

  • 1 carrot ($0.28)

  • 1 zucchini ($1.04)

  • 1 jar passata ($2.20)

  • 1 pack pasta ($0.90)

  • Grated cheese ($0.50)

Pantry staples:

  • 1 tbsp EVOO 

  • 2 tsp minced garlic

  • 1 tsp tomato paste

  • 1 tsp chicken stock power 

  • 2 tsp secret signature spice (or all purpose seasoning)

  • 2 tsp sugar

  • Pinch of salt

  • 2 tsp ketchup manis

Method

  1. Dice the carrot and zucchini into small cubes, put in a microwave safe bowl with a splash of water and microwave for 3 mins.

  2. Dice the onion and pop into a big frying pan, sauté for 2 mins. Add minced garlic and saute a little longer.

  3. Add the mince to the pan, breaking it up with the spoon and cook until browned.

  4. Add the tomato paste, chicken stock powder and secret seasoning to the mince and mix to combine.

  5. Pour passata, carrot and zucchini into the pan and stir together. Simmer for around 10 mins.

  6. Meanwhile, cook the pasta in a pot of boiling water until al dente.

  7. Assemble the pasta, sauce and grated cheese and serve!
